FOSTER TO ADOPT

Families providing foster care may have children in their care who, after a period of time, have their parental rights terminated. This allows the child to become legally allowed to be adopted by those outside the biological family. When these children become legally free for adoption, their foster parents can provide them permanency by legalizing the adoption. NYAP continues to embrace the focus of reunification with the biological family, but we also respect and desire the need for children to be in a safe and permanent home in their community, even though it may not be their biological family in the end. We encourage all of our foster parents to focus on reunification as the primary goal of foster care and to recognize the joy and privilege it is to see a family be reunited in their biological home.
